Sky Dome
The Sky Dome has been a favorite with our guests since we moved to our new location in 1965.  At that time, a genuine indoor jungle experience was unheard of in the U.S.

After a fire in 1976, the new and improved Dome allowed for even more sunlight to enter. As a result, more types of rare and unusual jungle and desert plants thrive here.

Hidden among the plants and sculptures are free roaming lizards and frogs. Colorful finches fly freely.  Large snakes, parrots and macaws perch throughout the Safari Room.

Sculptures from Papua New Guinea and Bali, Indonesia, fit in perfectly with the jungle surroundings.

Rare and unique cacti, succulents, and other arid region plants are exhibited in the Desert Area

Sky DomeHundreds of beautiful orchids, bromeliads, and caladiums fill the Safari Room with color.

The Sky Dome houses a replica of the largest turtle fossil ever found, an Archelon Turtle Fossil.  Archelons are the largest turtle species known to Man.  It was found by paleontologists a short distance from Reptile Gardens in the 1970's. In spite of efforts by Reptile Gardens' founder Earl Brockelsby to keep the original in South Dakota, it was sold to a museum in Vienna, Austria.

On the Mezzanine Level is our collection of exotic reptiles.  Here you will see the most venomous snake on earth, the Fierce Snake.  Reptile Gardens has the only specimens of this rare species in North America.

Here also are the rarest snakes in the world, the Rough-scaled Pythons.  Reptile Gardens has the ONLY rough-scaled pythons in the world outside of Australia.

Giant Pythons, Mambas, Cobras, venomous lizards, rattlesnakes of many varieties…the world's largest collection of reptiles is on view here...at Reptile Gardens.
